A Successful Season

23-04-2016

The 2015/16 season has been extremely successful for HWR - 21 winners at a 23% strike rate and a Grade 1 winner from our first attempt exceeded expectation. However come Sunday the new season will start all over and we will strive to improve on this year with a very strong team of Owners, staff and horses to boot. ENTRIES: On the last day of the National Hunt season we have 2 runners, but ironically they are both on the flat - MOLLASSES has been declared to run in a 10f handicap at Leicester at 5.45 , she was pulled up by Richard Johnson last time out when looking to go very well, fortunately we've found there to be absolutely nothing wrong with her since. She goes to Leicester off of a workable handicap mark and some ease in the ground should suit her. Granted some luck in running she should be capable of winning a race like this as we do feel she is well handicapped. Hopefully this is the start of a successful campaign for a mare with lots of talent. We are delighted to secure the services of George Baker. Our other runner on the day is QASSER who takes his chance in a 10f handicap at Wolverhampton at 8.20 . He ran an excellent second to a progressive horse of Roger Varian’s at Chelmsford and now runs in a more suitable race. He finished third in last year’s race when he had to make the running, which didn’t suit him. Granted a clear run he should be competitive off his current mark of 72. Luke Morris takes the ride again and knows him very well. REPORTS: PATRONNE finished 7th at Huntingdon on Monday. We switched tactics on her and dropped her out last in an attempt to get her to settle. She is a talented filly but she still pulled hard on the day, travelling well she was able to pass horses with ease until getting tired in the home straight. She shows a lot of ability at home but she needs to learn to relax more on the track, if she relaxes she wins races!! She will be out again in a couple of weeks to gain more experience. SPORTINGMILAN finished a staying on 2nd at Warwick on Thursday. We have only had him with the team for three weeks, but we have been looking forward to his debut. He ran a solid race, jumped well and travelled well enough to 3 out, where he got outpaced for a turn of foot. He showed a likeable attitude to pass rivals in the run in staying on and spring heeled the last to take second position. He will gain more experience over 2m4f before stepping up to 3m in handicaps which will be his ideal trip. He has come out of the race well! FRIZZO was pulled up at Market Rasen on the same day. We were hoping a switch to better ground would bring about some improvement, but unfortunately he didn’t put his best foot forward and made it very hard work for jockey Harry Teal. He made a bad mistake at the second fence and was always on the back foot from there on. He has been very consistent this year picking up lots of place prize money along the way. Until next week where we have an intended Punchestown grade 1 runner.
