A WEEK OF 2 HALVES
25-09-2020
It has definitely been a week of 2 halves coinciding with the Autumn Equinox this Tuesday. Unfortunately the glorious sunny weather and blue skies have now made way for the rain and drizzle, but with that the scent of jumps racing is in the air and we're excited to get things properly underway... Whilst Boris has sadly put a stop to any additional racegoers heading to the track for the timing being, there is still plenty for you to enjoy from the comfort and safety of your own home - Our virtual open day will be winging it's way to your screens in no time at all and the 5 to follow competition is still open for entries (more details below). Finally the new horses in training brochures are in stock and available - so do get in touch for more details. REPORTS BLACK ABBEY Black Abbey lined up in his first race since March in a 2 mile maiden hurdle at Plumpton on Sunday. Having finished second on 2 occasions last winter before a couple of disappointing runs, we were just hoping he could go out and get a good experience this time to start off his campaign. He got into a nice rhythm for the first half of the race but after that was slightly struggling to hold his position. Jockey Daryl Jacob reported afterwards that he hated the ground. He has come out of the race well and we will now wait for some cut in the ground before going again. ENTRIES REBEL LEADER Rebel Leader is set to run in the 'Follow At The Races On Twitter Handicap Hurdle' over at Uttoxeter later today. He is stepping up to 3 miles on this occasion, which should suit him well. He enjoys the track so we're looking forward to running him. The race looks like a good opportunity and hopefully now that he is dropped in class and up in trip, he should be able to put in a performance. HENRIETTA BELL Henrietta Bell will also line up at Uttoxeter today in the 'Download The At The Races App Handicap Chase'. This is a track she seems to like and she ran well there over 2.5 miles last time out. We're hopeful she should improve for the step up to 3 miles today. It is a relatively competitive field but being unexposed over fences she should have a good chance, provided she can get into a nice rhythm. NEVERBEEN TO PARIS Neverbeen to Paris is set to line up over course and distance where he was seen winning last time out. He runs in the Thank You Ferry Ales Brewery Handicap Chase over 2m5f at Market Rasen tomorrow. We feel that the cheek pieces on this occasion should just help sharpen up his jumping and we're looking forward to running him. It is a step up in class but hopefully he has the confidence to run well back at the track. SO EASY WAY So Easy Way is set to head to Newton Abbot on Monday for the 'Follow @attheraces On Twitter Handicap Chase' over 2 miles. He is very much ready to run but we've been waiting for the rain. He won a chase last autumn in France and has been schooling very well at home since arriving with us this summer. He has a good attitude and we’re looking forward to getting him started. CAPTAIN TOMMY Captain Tommy holds a couple of entries next week. He has taken nicely to fences but has found it tough to win in 2 hot novice chases so far. He now drops into a handicap for the first time and we're looking forward to running him. Hopefully he is off a favourable mark and he can run a decent race. IN OTHER NEWS EXCITING SPONSORSHIP OPPORTUNITY Having just purchased a new lorry for the coming season, off the back of a successful year and with more horses to run this season, an opportunity has arisen. What we are proposing is a standalone sponsorship deal on our new lorry for the year. This would include exclusive access to brand the lorry in whatever way you wish in order to best represent your brand alongside ours. These vehicles travel many miles each year from Lambourn to Leopardstown, Perth to Plumpton and everywhere in between! Whilst most of the country are unfortunately not able to go racing, the horses still need to travel there, so what better way to get your brand out there than by having it on one of our lorries which drives up and down the country 365 days of the year… If you are interested in this exciting opportunity do contact Alice for further information. info@harrywhittington.co.uk THE HWR 5 TO FOLLOW COMPETITION So as we head closer to the beginning of the NH season proper we have reached that time of year again when we open up our popular 5 to follow competition… We will be running this in the same way again this year, and the rules are very simple: £5 to enter, pick 5 horses with 1 reserve, you can enter as many times as you like and can pick any of the horses in our string.
