BATTEN DOWN THE HATCHES!

18-02-2022

HWR WEEKLY NEWS
We have endured some atrocious weather here at Hill Barn Stables over the past week so we’ve battened down the hatches!  Moving forwards we’ve got plenty to look forward to on the list of entries this week including the return of Young Bull at Newbury on Sunday.

REPORTS
HARRYS HOTTIE
Harry's Hottie had her third run in a mares’ maiden hurdle at Lingfield on Tuesday.  Things didn't go right for her last time out and we thought we would try a slightly different tactic on this occasion.  She was a bit keen down to the first but then settled in nicely behind one and got into a lovely rhythm.  Turning down the hill, she looked to be coming through the race well, but conditions just got a bit tired from two out.  She shaped really well though and we are looking forward to running her in handicaps down the line.
POLDARK CROSS
Poldark Cross was back in favourable conditions at Fontwell yesterday in a small field handicap chase.  There wasn't much pace on so he was able to sit upsides in front and got into a lovely rhythm throughout.  As they turned in, there was only one conceivable danger, the favourite, which just had a little bit more speed than us.  Poldark dug in though and held on for 2nd to run a nice race, a real step back in the right direction.
GALUDON
Galudon was having his first start for the yard in the bumper on the same card at Fontwell yesterday.  He had a nice bit of form from the bumper he ran in Ireland 12 months ago.  He is a big, galloping horse and we wanted to make plenty of use of him.  Turning out the back there were one or two that just had a bit too much speed for him, but he galloped on home showing signs of stamina.  We have learned plenty from the run and he is likely to come back out for a bumper in 3 to 4 weeks time
ENTRIES
YOUNG BULL
We are delighted to have an entry for Young Bull after 15 months off the track, due to sustaining a small injury in his last run at Ascot.  He was a horse we always held in high regard for going chasing, having had a successful novices hurdling campaign.  Newbury looks a good starting point for him on Sunday, with a nice flat galloping track.  He’s been in great form at home and has been dropped a few pounds by the handicapper, so we are looking forward to getting him back out and hopefully, fingers crossed, he can run a nice, clear round and show us that he still retains his ability.
TORIGNI
Torigni has an entry up at Doncaster this coming week but will only run if conditions dry out enough.  He has been ticking over nicely since his last run and a stiffer track and trip should hopefully suite him.  He remains in good form so we look forward to running him when conditions are right.
RAFFLES GITANE
Raffles Gitane has a couple of entries back at Huntingdon where she was able to win last time.  She has been in good form at home and ticking over.  She will need drying conditions to take her chance and we will have a look at both races before deciding which one to go for.
