MORE TO COME

19-04-2019

THIS WEEK The Easter weekend is upon us and with it the annual Lambourn Open Day today.  We'll be opening up our gates once again this morning from 8.30am - 12.30 so do call in if you are in the area, it's a brilliant family day out and all for a very good cause.  Back on the track we've had fewer runners but the horses have continued to run consistently.  There's quite a bit in store this weekend and not long left till the end of the season proper...   REPORTS WEAPONS OUT Weapons Out ran in the Purchasing Support Services Standard Open National Hunt Flat Race over 1m 5f 159y at Fontwell Park on Friday.  This was his 4th attempt in a bumper since joining the yard in the summer and he was coming in to it off the back of 3 consistent runs.  He is not bred necessarily to be a strong stayer so the drop in trip we thought would suit him.  He travelled strongly throughout the race and turning in he looked to have every chance.  As soon as he came off the bridle he wasn’t able to quicken up but plugged on at the same pace to finish a reasonable 4th.  We will now look to run him in a maiden hurdle in May around a sharp track. ANEMOI Anemoi went to Ayr on Saturday to run in the Cpms Scottish Champion Hurdle (Grade 2) over 2m.  He appeared to be in very good form going into this but unfortunately it didn’t work out as he was reluctant to start.  He was in last place throughout the race and was never able to get involved at all.  He is now going to undergo lots of test as the most likely explanation is there is something up with him.  This is not his true running as we believe he is a very talented horse and still has a very bright future. SALTO CHISCO Salto Chisco finished second at Wincanton on Sunday in the McCreery Military Amateur Riders' Handicap Hurdle.  This was a cracking run on his first start back after a break.  He jumped and travelled with his usual enthusiasm and it was a bit of a surprise to see him going so well turning in having not run in a long time.  From the back of the second last it looked as if he held the only possible danger.  He then got a really good jump at the last but his fitness found him out slightly and only just got beaten 2l by the favourite.  He stayed the trip well and has come out of the race in good nick.  He will now line up on Sunday at Market Rasen in the B. Eyre & Son Ltd Handicap Hurdle (Class 4) back over 2m 4f again. BRANDY JAMES Brandy James ran on the flat at Pontefract on Monday in the Into The Sky Pontefract Marathon Handicap over 2m 5f.  This was his first run on the flat since last summer and he was running over the extended trip which seemed a very long way for a flat race.  We felt this would help his stammer, the ground was very lively and there was no pace.  We got a good break and position to follow the leader but unfortunately it did not turn out in our favour and it turned into a sprint.  Brandy was unable to quicken on the ground and the jockey described it to be like a road.  Being by Motivator we will wait for the ground to soften up and will have another run on the flat over a similar trip. ENTRIES COURT LIABILITY Court Liability holds an entry at Haydock tomorrow in the Challenger Stayers Hurdle Series Final Handicap Hurdle (Class 2) over 3m.  He was very disappointing last time out having been a very progressive horse for the yard.  He was reported to have hated the ground and didn’t want to go on it at all therefore he was pulled up.  He is a talented horse who we believe is still well handicapped.   If he bounces back on ground that should really suit him then he should be in the mix.  Having won the qualifier at Musselburgh he will be eligible for the bonus if he is able to win this race.  It doesn’t look the strongest renewal this year and hopefully he can get justice for his stable mate Emerging Force who unseated at the last 3 years ago when pulling 4 lengths clear going away. ZANZI WIN Zanzi Win holds an entry at Plumpton on Easter Monday in the J.H.Builders Juvenile Hurdle (Class 4) over 1m 7f.  He won nicely here last time out and he will line up again over course and distance.  He is in really good form and we are looking forward to running him.  The race looks a good opportunity on paper with one danger being Praeceps who finished 6th in the Fred Winter.  We are 3lb higher in the weights but Zanziwin is very progressive and so hopefully he can take another step forward. THE KINGS BABY The Harry Whittington Racing Club's The Kings Baby is also set to run at Plumpton on Monday in the Strong Flavours Catering Mares' Handicap Hurdle (Class 4) over 2m 4f.  She is in good form at home and she should find this a lot easier as we hope she'll improve for the step up in trip and she can bounce back to form and run big race. MISTER COFFEY Mister Coffey holds two entries for next week one on Monday at Huntingdon in the Mansionbet Intermediate Open National Hunt Flat Race over 1m 7f and the other at Warwick on Thursday in the Racing Tv Profits Returned To Racing Standard Open National Hunt Flat Race over 2m.  He will most likely make his debut in one of these.  He is a horse who has been showing huge potential on the gallops at home. He is by a Sire of the moment; Authorized and out of an Anabaa mare with a good pedigree.  He is a rangey, scopey, athletic type who is a very good mover so he will appreciate the better ground.  Whatever he does in his bumper, he will improve enormously through the summer because he is still a big raw type.  He ticks a lot of boxes so we are looking forward to running him. CAPTAIN TOMMY Captain Tommy has an entry for Perth on Wednesday in the EBF Stallions Gold Castle 'National Hunt' Novices' Hurdle (Listed Race) over 2m 7f.  He is fresh and well after his latest win.  We think he will improve for a step up in trip for what looks a hot renewal of the race.  We have no idea of his ability level yet so it’s exciting to see how he will get on here. BIGMARTRE Bigmartre also holds an entry up at Perth for Thursday in the Heineken UK River Tay Handicap Chase (Class 2) over 2m 4f.  He has had a consistent season without winning but he has run in some tough races along the way. It would be nice to see him get his head in front on this final start of the season.  He has dropped down to an attractive mark so hopefully he will run a big race.
