Pre Christmas news…

11-12-2015

It’s been a quiet time for HWR with just the one runner in the last 12 days. However we will soon be very busy again however with 6 likely runners over the coming week. REPORT: FRIZZO finished a well held 3rd at Southwell last Tuesday. After speaking to the clerk of the course we felt the advertised ground of soft, good to soft in places would be fine for him. Unfortunately after the first race the jockeys came in and said the ground was more like heavy, which is too soft for the Frizz! Paul jumped off to make the running but Frizz was slowly away from the back of the first, this coupled with a strong gallop over the first 2 hurdles meant he found himself nearer last than first turning into the country. The field stayed tightly grouped throughout until they quickened turning for home. The winner Kilronan High quickened nicely to slip the field and did it in good style. Paul got after Frizzo and he struggled to pick up in testing conditions, but he plugged on gamely to finish 3rd. Although the ground was frustrating the Frizz showed a great attitude and we are hopeful he will go very close granted some better ground. He should be out again in around a month. ENTRIES: QASSER is set to run at Doncaster tomorrow over 2 miles at 11.50 , in a 0-120 Handicap Hurdle. He was very impressive at Taunton the last day, travelling well in a competitive race before knuckling down to win well. The handicapper has raised him 8lb which will make things more difficult, but the form looks strong as the 3rd from the Taunton race has won since under his rise from the handicapper. The more galloping track is a slight concern, but the better ground at Doncaster should really suit him. Qasser was carrying a lot of condition at Taunton, so we are hopeful he has some improvement in him. Hopefully he can go very close! PINKPLAY is entered to run in a Mares Maiden Hurdle at Southwell on Sunday at 2.55 . She has finished 2nd on both starts this year showing improved form from start to start and with an excellent attitude. Her hurdling debut at Ludlow looked a particularly strong race so she did well to finish 2nd. The track at Southwell should suit her better than Ludlow, she has been in good form at home and a reproduction of her Ludlow run will put her right in the mix here. EMERGINGFORCE holds entries at Newbury and Towcester next week, with Newbury on Wednesday at 3.00 looking the likely target. He was very impressive on debut at Fontwell, setting a decent gallop the whole way before winning by 3 lengths. He will carry a 7lb penalty here for his win but he has improved for the run and the track should suit. It is a competitive race with several winners entered, but he deserves to take his chance in this slightly better race. We are looking forward to running him and we should learn a lot from the run. WOOLSTONEONE is entered for her racecourse debut on the same card, in a 1m 4f Fillies only Bumper at 3.00 . Wooly is a 3yo Authorized filly that is related to black type performers, from an Aga Khan family. She did well throughout the summer strengthening up and improving physically and is now ready to make her debut. She is very enthusiastic and we can’t wait to see her on the track. The Alan King trained Passmore sets the standard. ZEPHYROSBLEU holds a couple of entries in the next week or so, the first of those is at Towcester on Thursday. He ran well for a long way at Uttoxeter after a long break and he’s come out of the race well which is very pleasing considering what he’s been through. The experience has sharpened him up and his work and schooling have improved since. The track should suit but the ground wouldn't want to be to deep, we are hopeful he can take a step forward from Uttoxeter anyway. FATCATINTHEHAT holds an entry in a 0-125 Handicap Hurdle at Haydock next Saturday. Felix has schooled well and is working nicely since joining the yard and we are looking forward to seeing him on the track. If we can get him back to his best form he should be very competitive off his mark of 123. He is another very exciting recruit! Until next week,
