Rouge in Cheltenham Victory!

30-10-2020

Another week and another winner!  The opening fixture got under way at Cheltenham on Friday where we managed to land an impressive victory in the flying form of Rouge Vif.  We couldn't be happier with the performance - very much starting as we mean to go on! Since then a fairly quiet week on the track but plenty to keep us busy at the yard including a few camera crews who were keen to touch base with our plans for the new season... RACE REPORTS

ROUGE VIF
Rouge Vif lined up in an extremely competitive handicap chase at Cheltenham on Friday for his seasonal reappearance.  There was plenty of pace on and he settled nicely in a handy position.  His jumping was slick on the ground and he got upsides halfway down the back.  At the top of the hill he was going extremely well.  He missed three out but then went on to win extremely impressively by seven and a half lengths eased down.  He has gone up 8lbs to a mark of 164 and will have an entry in the Shloer Chase in November.  We will see how he comes out of the race before confirming where to go next.
SIROBBIE
Sirobbie ran in a competitive Pertemps Qualifier at Cheltenham on Saturday.  A race we felt he had very much earned his right to have a go in.  Adrian Heskin rode him with plenty of light on the better ground and he got into a lovely rhythm.  He was in a handy position all the way and looked to have every chance when he missed 3 out.  He didn’t quite have the pace for the front 3 but ran onto finish a very solid 4th.  We will freshen him up now and look to run him again in a similar sort of event in 3-4 weeks time.
CALIDAD
Calidad made his debut in the bumper on the same card Cheltenham on Saturday.  He had been impressive in his work at home so we were keen to have a go at this race with him.  We needed a nice even gallop and he travelled extremely well throughout the race.  At the top of the hill he looked to have them all at it and he had every chance.  From two out his head came up and he stopped very quickly which was a huge shame.  We are still confident that he is a proper horse and we will get his wind checked out next before we look to run him in a similar sort of event next time out.
JAMMY GEORGE
Jammy George lined up in what looked on paper a very competitive Novices Handicap chase at Aintree on Sunday.  It was his first run back after a back operation, so we just wanted to see him get into a better rhythm over his fences.  Jonjo O’Neil Jr jumped him off in a handy position and bar the first fence on the whole he jumped nicely.  It turned into quite a test and he just got a bit tired having not run for a long time.  It was a step in the right direction however and in softer conditions off the back of a run he should go close.
  ENTRIES
WATERLEFE GETAWAY
Waterlefe Getaway is set to line up in her second hurdle race at Uttoxeter later today, a track where she ran well at first time out.  The race looks a competitive one on paper but hopefully she can take a step forward from her debut over hurdles.  She has been in good form at home so hopefully she can show some promise and run another nice race.
HENRIETTA BELL
Henrietta Bell has been declared to run in the handicap hurdle over 2m3f at Wetherby tomorrow.  She has been in good form at home and is continuing to be very consistent.  Hopefully the galloping track and conditions should suit her well and she will run a big race.
MEDALLA DE ORO
Medalla de Oro is set to line up in the handicap hurdle over 1m7f at Plumpton on Monday.  He has been ultra-consistent since starting off over hurdles with a win and 3 seconds to his name.  We hope now that he has been dropped into a handicap he can run a big race.  The track should suit him and our yard conditional Jamie Neild will take the ride on him.  He gets on with him so well and claims an extra 10 pounds.  We are looking forward to running him.
EARLY MORNING DEW
Early Morning Dew holds a couple of bumper entries next week.  He is a classy type that we have been looking forward to running.  The ground was too soft at Newton Abbot for him this week ,so we found a few alternative races for him to make his debut next week.  His work at home has been excellent so we are looking forward to running him under his conditions.
DEER HUNTER
Deer Hunter has a couple of entries coming up and is in good form at home. He needed the experience last time and it sharpened him up a good bit.  He hurdles well so we're looking forward to running him again.
BOOLEY BEACH
Booley Beach holds a couple more entries in mares bumpers in the coming weeks.  She didn’t run on soft ground at Aintree on Sunday because we feel she will appreciate some better ground.  She is in good form and we are looking forward to running her.  Her work at home has been promising.
FLASH DE CLERVAL
Flash de Clerval has a couple of entries coming in Novices handicap chases coming up.  He has been ready to run for a while but has needed the rain to come to get his conditions.  He's been schooling fences really nicely at home so we're looking forward to getting him started over the bigger obstacles.
BLACK ABBEY
Black Abbey has a couple of different entries in handicaps over the next couple of weeks.  He has been in good form since his promising run last time out at Market Rasen and has been dropped to a very workable mark of 108.  We will look forward to either stepping him up in trip or running him in a stiffer contest.
QUALISMART
Qualismart has a couple of up and coming entries to make his racecourse debut.  He is a horse with plenty of speed and has been schooling well at home.  He has come from France and has done plenty of work so we decided not to run him in a bumper.  We are looking forward to his debut and hopefully he will show a huge amount of potential.
