SUMMER FITNESS TRAINING

19-08-2016

THIS WEEK The heat has been turned up at HWR this week with the Lambourn Valley humming with the sound of combine-harvesters.  Fitness training is progressing and the horses seem to be enjoying the late summer sunshine. REPORTS Jack Bear finished 5th at Nottingham last Friday. He jumped out of the gates well under jockey Martin Harley, finding a nice position just behind the pace. He held a similar position for the majority of the contest, travelling pretty well throughout but when the race developed in the final straight he wasn't able to show his turn of foot on the quickest ground he'd encountered. He stuck on well though finishing a close 5th and now we know he needs some cut in the ground he will go on a short break, before returning for a hurdling campaign. Jack will mix the flat and hurdles going forward and is an excellent dual purpose prospect. Polstar finished 3rd at Market Rasen on Saturday. Every jockey wanted to make the running so the pace was very strong from the outset. He was dropped in by jockey Harry Teal, but was on and off the bridle from an early stage. The pace started to collapse on the final circuit and Polst started to pick off his rivals one by one. At the top of the straight he looked like he'd play a part in the finish, but the new trip was too far for him. He eventually came home in 3rd and has since been dropped another 3lb by the handicapper to a mark of 110. ENTRIES Ahraam has been declared to run at Wolverhampton tonight. He improved to finish 2nd last time out at Brighton and we are hopeful the switch back to the all-weather over this shorter trip will suit him. If he can improve again he should be right in the mix with a couple of progressive rivals who are backing up quickly. Jack Mitchell takes the ride.
