Good things come to those who wait

21-08-2020

HWR WEEKLY NEWS This week proved that good things come to those who wait as we notched up our first winner over jumps for the new campaign. Although most of our runners have been running their races, finishing in the frame with a nice win on the flat early doors, it was great to see Neverbeen to Paris be steered to victory by Gavin Sheehan for the first time over fences at Market Rasen on Sunday. Back at base all the horses are looking magnificent ahead of the coming season and we're now really kicking on with preparations. Onwards and upwards to hopefully another record breaking season... REPORTS HENRIETTA BELL Henrietta Bell lined up in her second chase under rules at Uttoxeter on Saturday 8th August. Having shaped with promise on debut Gavin decided to jumped her off and ride her in a positive manner, and they ended up making a lot of the running. She jumped and travelled nicely and turning in she looked to have every chance before making a small mistake at the second last and then the last. She ran on well to finish solid 3rd in a very good race. If she can run like that again in a similar event then she should go very close next time. She holds a couple of entries this Sunday at Cartmel so hopefully she can put in another decent performance and get her head in front.   NEVERBEEN TO PARIS Neverbeen To Paris lined up on his second chase start at Market Rasen on Sunday, where we were confident he could take another step forward. Having run over a trip that was too short for him first time over fences this looked a good opportunity on paper. There was plenty of pace on so we decided to dropped him out. He was a bit slow over the first couple of fences but soon warmed to the task. At the top of the hill he had made up a lot of ground slotting into 3rd position. From there he had every chance and was very good at the last three fences even though Gavin he did have to switch sides. He won comfortably in the end and it was fantastic to get a victory for him since joining the yard. He is an extremely versatile horse who has now won on the flat, over hurdles and over fences. We now have options going forward but will first let him recover from this race before deciding what to do next. SHAFFIRE Shaffire has been running well of late and lined up in a fillies race at Ripon on Sunday. With just four runners she was dropped out where she travelled nicely in looked a very good race on paper. As they kicked on from 2 out she struggled to go with them, however and was looked after from there on in. She will now drop back in trip slightly for her next run and we look forward to getting her back on track. ENTRIES CAPTAIN TOMMY Captain Tommy is set to make his chase debut under rules at Newton Abbot later today. He hasn’t run for a long time and is in good form at home. He schools well over fences but this looks a tough race on paper. He will no doubt go up in trip in time but this looks a good place to start. He should improve for fences so we are looking forward to running him. REBEL LEADER Rebel Leader will line up at Newton Abbot today for his second start over fences. He shaped ok on chase debut at Southwell a few weeks ago finishing 3rd, having jumped incredibly well and will stick to fences for now. We are still learning about him as he hadn’t run for a long time so was very ring rusty. We look forward to seeing if he can progress. SALTO CHISCO Yard legend Salto Chisco holds 2 entries at Southwell on Monday to kick off his campaign for the new season. We will review the entries before deciding which race to run in. He hasn’t run for a long time so may need this as a pipe opener. We look forward to getting the maestro back out again. It’s been a long wait but he is a legend of a horse and is still showing plenty of zest on the gallops at home.
